Ladies backpacking trip

"My mom, sister and I did the “mystery backpacking trip” with Heather just this past weekend. Heather was INCREDIBLE. Heather’s passion for what she does became clear very quickly - and I think that is what makes her such a great guide. If you’re on the fence about booking an adventure with Uplift, I would absolutely recommend it, and I can’t wait to book my next one."

The Boulder Field (2 days /1 night)

A boulder is a large rock that has fallen from a mountain or may have been moved by a glacier. A boulder field is several large rocks. This backpacking trip takes you to some of the most stunning landscapes in the South Canadian Rockies. It is a favourite. You will go up and down several hills while absorbing the remote mountain ranges. This trip gets its name from the camping location: a beautiful alpine lake situated along the continental divide with boulders appearing like large stepping stones scattered within the lake.

This backpack is geared towards an intermediate to advanced backpacker. We can offer an easier option for private bookings if the distance appears too daunting.

Location: North Crowsnest Pass

The Subalpine (2 days /1 night)

The subalpine is the natural region right before you reach above the treeline. It offers stunning views and amazing flora. The first part of your adventure will require a mountain bike as you will ride along an old backcountry road. The final destination for your trip will showcase a towering mountain with ruby red sedimentary rock and stunning patches of yellow lichen. On a hot day, you can go for a dip into the subalpine lake where your camp is located nearby. As the sunsets, the mountain viewscape will transform to give you the most significant show of alpenglow.

This backpacking trip is geared towards an intermediate to advanced backpacker.

Location: Castle Provincial Park, near Waterton Lakes National Park

Book NowThe Subalpine (2 days /1 night)

The Karst (2 days /1 night) or (3 days /2 nights)

A karst is a landscape predominantly derived from limestone and has been eroded over thousands of years to produce fissures, sinkholes, caves, and more. The karst backpacking trip takes you on a journey of exploration of moon-like landscapes. After a scenic day of backpacking, you will reach camp and want to immediately explore this awe-inspiring area. You will want to keep your eyes peeled for visitors though and it is common to see mountain goats and sheep carefully watching you from the mountain alpine slopes.

This backpacking trip can be done two different ways. You can do this as a 3-day backpack and have a basecamp closer to the trailhead. This will allow you to explore two valleys over three days. Or complete the one valley and do this in two days.

This backpacking trip is geared towards an intermediate to advanced backpacker.

Location: Castle Provincial Park, near Crowsnest Pass

The Headwall (2 days /1 night)

A headwall is a steep slope establishing the head of a valley and is usually formed by glaciers. This backpacking trip receives this name for two reasons. First you will hike up a short headwall, and second you will camp under one of the most significant mountains in the South Canadian Rockies to feel the true significance of a headwall. Along this backpacking trip, you will spend the majority of your time witnessing the stunning mountains along the Great Divide. Your campsite is found alongside alpine tarns and underneath big mountains. In the evening, you will have the opportunity to relax or venture up a nearby hill for stunning views.

This backpack is geared towards an intermediate backpacker. We will sometimes take our Intro to Backpacking course to this location, but the second day looks different and isn’t as difficult.

Location: Castle Provincial Park, near Waterton Lakes National Park

Book NowThe Headwall (2 days /1 night)

The Alpenglow (2 days /1 night) or (3 days /2 nights)

The alpenglow is the light off of the mountains either at sunset or sunrise that gives the landscape the most beautiful colour. In the South Canadian Rockies, there are natural red hues in the mountain rock, which showcase the best alpenglow. This backpacking trip will take you deep into the wilderness near Waterton Lakes National Park to two subalpine lakes. In the evening or late afternoon, we will take some time to explore the second lake a short distance away. Wake up early to watch the sunrise hit the mountain headwall and illuminate the start of your day.

This backpacking trip can be done two different ways. Add some distance and make it a 3-day backpack, or stick with a shorter option and do it in 2 days. Experience the beautiful alpenglow yourself. This backpack is geared towards an intermediate backpacker.

The Montane (4 days /3 nights)

The montane region of the Canadian Rockies is found below the treeline and encompasses the main natural region of the South Canadian Rockies. You will enjoy the beautiful views from the montane, but you don’t need to summit any mountains or go through high mountain passes. This 4-day backpacking trip is geared towards a moderate level backpacker. You will have some distance to cover, but you will also have options to sit back, relax, and breath it all in!

Location: Castle Provincial Park, near Waterton Lakes National Park

The Massif (5 days /4 nights)

A massif is a compact group of connected mountains. This incredible mountain backpacking trip gives surreal vistas of long mountain ranges and showcases the amazing backcountry around Crowsnest Pass. During this 5-day adventure, you will find yourself in the alpine, in the subalpine, at mountain lakes, going over high mountain cols, and seeing landscapes that will inspire you to spend more time in the South Canadian Rockies.

This backpacking trip is advanced and should only be attempted by adventurers with experience and high physical endurance.
