Discover how the small things are really, really cool!

The tour is based in Alberta’s biodiversity hotspot, with over 50% of Alberta’s vascular species being found in Waterton Lakes National Park. Join our professional guides who are trained by scientists or are also scientists themselves!

Your tour starts at the trailhead to Crandell Lake (via Akamina Parkway – very important as there are two access points). At the trailhead, we will welcome you to Waterton and start the tour with a detailed introduction about the biodiversity found within the Park.

Once we hit the trail, expect to be moving at a slow pace as we will stop to look at several wildflowers. We will discuss how to identify and use your guidebook to identify the plants we find. You will be given tools and books on the walk to help you learn. We will hike towards Crandell Lake and then return the same way we hiked in. Our round-trip walk is a total of 3.4km with a total of 180m elevation gain/loss.

Once we get to the lake, we will have time to enjoy the views and a complimentary snack and beverage from Uplift Adventures. We will then head back to the trailhead the same way we walked in.

We will finish the tour with a greater understanding of how to identify wildflowers, wildflower parts, key items to use for a proper identification, and basic botany terms. Uplift Adventures has a special take home gift for you to help you continue your wildflower journey.

Please note: We do not have cell phone service at the trailhead. Last minute inquiries and questions will not be answered on the day of the tour.

"I can’t say enough good things about Heather and Uplift. Heather is warm, caring, funny, and makes everyone in the group feel at ease. She makes sure to tailor the hikes to everyone’s abilities and checks in and supports everyone throughout. She is very prepared and safety-oriented. She is incredibly passionate and knowledgeable about the land and the mountains, and I have had such a great time learning about all the wildflowers from her. I’ve done Uplift’s beginner hikes, the wildflower walk, and a day hike at Castle, and I hope to do more. They’ve all been fabulous and Heather takes great pictures throughout to share with everyone after. I did one hike with Bronwyn and she was also a fantastic and kind guide. I highly recommend these hikes to anyone who wants to get out in nature, to learn about the area, and to see some amazing trails and views."
